NAB India Centre for Blind Women & Disability Studies

Lifeskills

Blind women often face challenges in acquiring essential life skills due to limited exposure and dependency on guardians. At our program, we are committed to empowering blind women with the knowledge and confidence to manage their homes, travel independently, and maintain personal hygiene. These fundamental skills are vital for their integration into mainstream society.

Mobility and Orientation

Mastering mobility and orientation skills is crucial for blind women to navigate their surroundings confidently. Our program provides comprehensive training in mobility techniques, including the use of canes, auditory cues, and spatial awareness. Through practical exercises and simulated environments, participants learn to move safely and independently in both familiar and unfamiliar settings.

Braille

Proficiency in Braille is a cornerstone of literacy and independence for blind individuals. Our Braille curriculum covers reading, writing, and tactile recognition of Braille characters. Participants also learn to use Braille devices such as Braille displays and embossers, empowering them to access printed materials and communicate effectively in both personal and professional contexts.

Housekeeping and Home Science

Managing a household requires a range of practical skills, from cleaning and organizing to meal planning and budgeting. Our housekeeping and home science program teaches blind women essential tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and home maintenance. Through hands-on training and adaptive techniques, participants gain the confidence and competence to manage their homes efficiently and independently.

Smartphone Skills

In today’s digital age, smartphones are invaluable tools for communication, information access, and navigation. Our smartphone skills course introduces blind women to accessible smartphone technology and teaches them to use voice commands, screen readers, and other accessibility features. Participants learn to use smartphones for tasks such as making calls, sending messages, accessing the internet, and using navigation apps for independent travel.
